Finally; long sun-filled days on the beach with family and friends, Sunday brunches featuring bottomless mimosas, and starry nights under the fireworks have made its long-awaited return. Whether you choose to lay in the sun or chill in the shade, preventative care is imperative.
The very first and most important step to maintaining healthy skin year-round is HYDRATION! Drinking plenty of water should be the first step in your daily beauty regimen. Be sure to consume about eight to ten glasses of water every single day.
The next key element to maintaining healthy skin in the summer months is allowing it to breathe! Increased temperatures and humidity can be really hard on your skin so be sure to take preventative measures of protection. Many ladies opt out of heavy makeup during the day; (which we HIGHLY recommend) to allow the skin freedom to breathe in the increased temperatures. It also eliminates the embarrassment and bothersome ordeal, of having a full face melt off after you spent forever in the mirror perfecting that winged eyeliner. Try to do minimal makeup or none-at-all during the day!
Below you will find three key DIYs to have on-hand for the season. Protect your skin and maintain a healthy natural glow!
Rosewater is excellent for an everyday face refresher. It also helps reduce inflammation, refines pores, and balances your skin’s pH levels. This beauty staple is super easy to make and can also serve as an excellent makeup setting spray!
- 3 Roses
- 1.5 L of Distilled Water
- Raw Aloe Vera Leaf
- Travel Sized Spray Bottle (3-4oz)
-Bring 1.5 Liters of distilled water to a boil.
-Gently pluck the rose petals and submerge them in the boiling distilled water.
-Cover the rose petals and allow them to boil until the roses lose their rich red color. You’ll know the roses are done when the petals have a pale pink hue.
-Remove the pale pink petals and add 3 tablespoons of Aloe Vera flesh/jelly. Stir well until Aloe Vera jelly dissolves.
- Allow the mixture to cool completely. Pour the mixture into a travel sized spray bottle and voila! You have completed your first batch of rosewater!
ALL NATURAL SUNSCREEN

- ½ cup of Coconut Oil
- ¼ cup of Shea Butter
- ¼ cup of Almond Oil
- Carrot Oil (Essential Oil)
- Zinc Oxide Powder
-Melt the coconut oil, almond oil, and shea butter together in a saucepan. Mix until smooth and perfectly blended.
-Remove the mixture from heat and add 20 drops of carrot oil. Stir thoroughly to allow proper oil infusion.
-Add 2 tablespoons of zinc oxide powder.
BE CAREFUL and avoid inhaling the zinc oxide powder while transferring to the saucepan. Mix until powder is completely combined with butter mixture. No clumps whatsoever, it must be mixed thoroughly!
-Transfer to glass jar and allow the mixture to cool and solidify.
Bugs be gone! This simple five ingredient blend is the key to a bite-free summer. Spray your entire body with the mixture after you apply your sunscreen each day!
- 4oz of Distilled Water
- 4oz of Witch Hazel
- Spearmint Oil
- Neem Oil
- Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
- Spray Bottle (8-10 oz)
-Mix distilled water, witch hazel, 10 drops of spearmint oil, 10 drops of neem oil, and 10 drops of lemon eucalyptus oil in the spray bottle and shake well!
