Summer Skincare Tips

Summer is a season to hang out and spend time on the seashore and beaches. As the weather changes, your skin care routine should shift as well. Let's face it, our lifestyle and habits need change in order to keep our skin challenges at bay. Our skin protects our body from all possible external hazards as well as the sunlight. So, it is very important to take care of our skin all season round. Note - Excessive heat and warmth of the sun in summer can cause severe un-reversible damage.

Summer Skincare Breakdown

Exfoliate your body
The ground rule of basic skincare is to exfoliate your skin. Your body sheds skin cells at an amazing rate every minute of every day. If you don't get rid of them, they'll just set in on your skin making you look dull and dry. No matter how much body butters you use, you're never going to have glowing skin if you don't exfoliate. So grab a body scrub and hit the shower. Gently rub your exfoliator in circular movements on your entire body from the shoulders down (you'll want a facial exfoliator for your face and neck) and rinse clean. Continue to do this 2-3 times a week for year-round beautiful skin. To maintain your face moisture, wash your face with a cleanser twice a day. Don't skip exfoliation in the summer as this eliminates dead cells making the skin look more refreshed. Exfoliation also improves blood circulation in your face resulting in glowing skin.

Sunscreen is a must

You must remember to use sunscreen, but you probably need to throw away last year's unused sunscreen for a new bottle. Sunscreens aren't meant to last forever and seeing that most people don't use as much as they should...there always tends to be some lying around.

Buy a new sunscreen that has UVA and UVB protection. You should be using a shot glass full for your body and a full teaspoon just on your face. Reapply it every 1-2 hours that you are in the sun to ensure a summer full of safe sun fun.

Make water a priority
In the summer, your body will sweat more to cool itself. But it will only end up wet and hot without evaporation of this sweat. So, make it a priority to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. At least 8 glasses of water are needed daily. You can always carry a water bottle with you and remember to drink at least once every 30 min. Water not only helps you feel refreshed, but it also prevents dehydration and will help flush out a lot of toxins.

Hydrate and Moisturize your face and body with light butters, oils or creams
Find a summery lotion that you won't forget to put on. It's time to pack away your thick winter body butters for more light summery creams. You don't have time to wait for your skincare products to sink in, so look for something light fast absorbing. Gels and purees are perfect fast absorbents. Nothing spells summer more than a light refreshing fruity body cream or lotion. Make sure you apply right after you pat dry from your shower. This helps to seal in the moisture your body just soaked in.
