Summer Skin Care Tips: 7 Essential Tips to Follow This Season

Maintaining your skin during the summer months is important because it's during this time of year when your skin easily gets blackheads, clogged pores and pimples, because of extra oil and sweat deposits brought on by the heat. To help combat the extra stress on your skin, here are seven simple tips you should add to your skincare routine this summer.

1. Get a Boost of Vitamin C

Why is vitamin C essential for healthy skin? Well, it plays a huge role in the maintenance of healthy collagen. Collagen is the structural protein found in skin that keeps it firm, strong and healthy. So, this summer, make sure you've stocked your fridge with a lot of collagen-boosting foods. Some suitable examples include lemons, oranges, amla, tomatoes and grapefruits, as well as green vegetables like kale.

2. Always Exfoliate

It's always good to remove dead skin cells even during the summer months. However, if you're spending more times outdoors, exfoliating often isn't that necessary. According to cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Kally Papantoniou, "If you are going to be in the sun for prolonged periods, like going to the beach or playing an outdoor sport, I would suggest holding off from any exfoliation."

3. Keep It Natural

While commercial products may seem great, they are often full of harmful chemicals that can do damage to your skin and even your health. This summer, try going all natural with your skincare regime. Try some ingredients found in your kitchen, such as yogurt, coffee, sugar and baking soda, which are suitable for natural scrubs and exfoliators. For all natural moisturizers, try the Lemon Cheesecake R$ch Butter or the Melan-In Skin Nourishing Lotion with SPF 15.

4. Don't Forget the Importance of Sunscreen

Don't forget to use some sunscreen. Keep in mind that one of the most significant factors in aging is too much exposure to sunlight. Remember to keep reapplying your sunscreen every two hours as well. However, if you regularly wear makeup, purchase foundation that has sunscreen in it, as reapplying a cream sunscreen is difficult if you're rocking a full face throughout the day.

5. Eat Cooling Foods

Did you know that your diet plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin during summer? Besides drinking plenty of water, grab some seasonal vegetables and fruits that reduce your body temperature and help keep your skin hydrated. Other useful drinks that won't dehydrate you but will help keep you cool include coconut water and vegetable juices.

6. Don't Forget About Your Lips and Eyes

It's easy to forget to care for your lips and eyes as you worry more about the skin on your face and body. However, all of that summer sunlight can wreak havoc on these sensitive areas of your body. Be sure to always wear sunglasses when you leave the house; they aren't just to look stylish, but can also protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Additionally, the skin on your lips needs a lip balm with an SPF to keep them from being dry, cracked and burnt.

7. Take a Shower or Two

Hygiene plays a huge role in tackling the "rough" summer heat. Take a shower twice a day to keep your skin fresh and clean, and apply all-natural oils and moisturizers liberally to keep your skin nice and soft. Try our all-natural Royal Oil or the Straw-burry R$ch Butter. A cooling shower even gets rid of that lethargic feeling that comes with the season.

You should always maintain your skin year round. During the summer months, however, use the above tips to take extra care of your skin to combat the sun, the extra sweat and the grime that comes with seasonal heat.
