Skincare Under the Mask

2020 has been one interesting year so far, to say the least. Who would have thought that a virus would change almost everything that we do in life? Children are being home schooled, many are working from home, and let’s not forget the mandatory mask order that has taken place across the country. Almost everyone in the country is required to wear a mask in every public place. Wearing a mask for hours at a time has caused for a crisis of its own, a skincare crisis. People all over the country are complaining that the mask is causing acne and other skin care issues to the lower half of their face. This issue has been identified as “maskne”. It is proven that masks can trap sweat, dirt, and oil onto the skin. For many who have worked so hard to achieve healthy and clear skin, this feels like a major setback. Here at the Butter Bar Skincare, we completely understand and we are here to help. We have combined a list of tips and tricks you can do to help keep your skin healthy and clear under the mask.

1. Ensure to keep up with your skincare routine.

It is important to keep up with your daily skincare routine. Ensuring that you are cleansing your face morning and night is extremely important. You want to remove any trapped dirt, oil, or sweat that the mask may have caused from the skin, morning and night. It is also important to use a toner after cleansing the skin with a face wash. Our natural toners have anti-inflammatory properties and help to exfoliate, kill bacteria, and even the skin tone. Your three-step daily skincare routine would not be complete without a moisturizer. Continue to moisturize your skin after your cleansing and toning process! You want to ensure your skin has a barrier between the skin and mask.

2. Skip the Makeup Under the Mask

We know this is a tough one! How is your face supposed to be beat and flawless with only half of it done? Well, if you’re planning to wear a mask for hours it’s best to skip your makeup routine in the areas that will be covered by the mask. If you’re having to keep your mask on for work, or other purposes, try just doing your makeup from the eyes up, or skip the foundation. This will help relieve some skincare issues you may be

experiencing under the mask. Wearing makeup and keeping a mask on for long periods of time can clog pores and cause acne, small breakouts, and other issues to the skin. On the bright side, there are plenty of tutorials all over the internet, including popular apps like; Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Many people are sharing how they perform their favorite makeup mask looks that doesn’t require wearing any makeup underneath their masks.

3. Get the Right Type of Mask for Your Skin

It is recommended to stay stocked up on breathable fabric masks, or use disposable medical masks. If you are using disposable medical masks it is recommended to dispose of them after daily use. If you are looking for a reusable mask option a light fabric option like cotton is recommended. Cotton is a light and breathable fabric that doesn’t fit too tight or cause a lot of friction onto the skin. If you are using a reusable mask option, it is very important to wash the mask daily. Many people find it easier to stock up on reusable masks, so that they can wear a new one each day and wash them after daily use. When washing your masks, it is recommended to use fragrance free detergent and to wash your masks separately from any other laundry items. This helps to ensure there are no other components that can irritate your skin when you wear your clean mask again.

4. Detox Your Skin
