Spring and Summer Skincare Switches
Switch to a Water-Based Cleanser
During summer, we typically sweat more, which opens our pores.
This is great for skin detoxification if you’re washing your face immediately. If not, you could inadvertently be allowing for more dirt and grime build up, which can lead to pimples. Sun exposure and sunscreen also play a role in acne flare-ups over the summer. Regular cleansing is vital in preventing and minimizing these skin troubles.
Typically, we’re huge fans of oil cleansers. They are the cleanest and safest products as they require no preservation system, and they work well for makeup removal and simultaneous hydration support. But for summer, we suggest switching to a water-based cleanser instead. Cleansers like gels or foams help control oil production that could increase with the summer’s heat. So, we suggest saving the oil cleansing for those heavy, makeup-filled nights!
Exfoliate with a Peel
Using a scrub to rejuvenate your complexion can seem like a great idea, but more often than not, grainy scrubs can leave your skin tight, dry and riddled with micro tears in the pores that cause premature aging. We recommend our Pumpkin Yam Papaya Enzyme Face Mask especially for the warmer months.
Up Your Toner Game
Toner is a must, all-year round, but in the summer, its benefits are even more important. Toner closes the pores, helping to block out pollutants and grime. It’s a coolant, too, which will bring down your skin temp on those scorcher days. Wipe down with a cotton ball after exercise, spritz yourself on the beach, or in between errands. You’ll feel awesome and help shield your skin from dirty air.
Upgrade Your SPF( We call it MPF)
While we hope you chose to wear SPF throughout the winter months, it's even more important now to up your sun-protection game.
Adjust Your Moisturizer
Again, summer is a time to watch your oil application. Evaluate your moisturizers and figure out where to lighten up. You’ll also be layering your moisturizer with a sunscreen, so you want to make sure your products don’t overwhelm your skin. Our Melan-In Skin Nourishing Lotion+ MPF adds a glow and an instant vitamin boost to your body care regime with our 100% plant-based serum, now added to our most lavish lotion! This 4-in-1 moisturizer targets: Moisture, Anti-aging, UV Protection, and Skin Evening! It heals irritation and calms inflammation while protecting your complexion to reveal even, glowing, luminous skin. The Melan-In Skin Nourishing Lotion+ MPF also helps to reduce pigmentation and lightens the skin.
Depending on your skin type and its unique personality, you may still need to keep some oil in your routine, possibly for the day, but especially at night. On the other hand, you may want to skip a raw oil completely. A light, creamy moisturizer should do the trick for most people.
You can also get moisture back with a mask, because winter is brutal on skin prone to dryness, and it can sometimes take a bit of work getting it back to normal for the warmer months.
