Dry skin can cause several problems like itching and redness of skin. In severe cases of dry skin, it can result in skin infections like eczema which involves further skin irritation, itching and redness. Eczema is a condition that causes your skin to become red and itchy. It’s typically a chronic condition that periodically flares up.
Since there’s no cure for eczema, treatment is focused on relieving symptoms.
Oats help in the recovery of the eczematous skin by moisturizing, restoring the skin barrier, reducing itching, and regulating inflammation. Colloidal oatmeal or grounded oats can be added to lukewarm water in the bathtub, to soothe irritated and itchy skin due to any cause. Oatmeal Bath for Eczema
An oatmeal bath does include oatmeal and warm water, but the oatmeal used is ground into a fine powder called colloidal oatmeal. It’s suspended in water and won’t sink to the bottom. Colloidal oatmeal can protect skin and soothe the itching and irritation from eczema. Studies also indicate that colloidal oatmeal can also act as a buffer to help maintain skin surface pH.
People commonly soak for about 10 minutes to relieve eczema itch but follow the instructions on the package of colloidal oatmeal or ask your doctor for a recommendation. Don’t soak for too long since it can dry out your skin and aggravate itch and eczema.
You may feel a bit sticky once you are finished. You can rinse off with fresh lukewarm water. When you’re done, quickly pat yourself dry with a towel. Don’t rub yourself dry as rubbing can cause irritation.

2 DIY Oatmeal Masks for Eczema
Half cup of oatmeal (Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory properties which give relief from the symptoms of eczema. It absorbs the excess oil and also removes dirt and grime from the pores keeping them clean and also acts as an exfoliant).One tablespoon of pure honey (Honey is a natural moisturizer and has antiseptic property),two tablespoons of yogurt (Yogurt too has antibacterial and moisturizing properties and also acts as skin lightening agent) and half cup of hot water.
Take the oatmeal in a container. Add the hot water to it. Leave it for 10 minutes. Add the honey and the yogurt and mix well. Your oatmeal face mask is ready to use.
One fourth cup oatmeal, one fourth cup hot water, one tablespoon of honey ,one teaspoon of nutmeg powder (Nutmeg has anti-inflammatory properties and gives relief from itching) and half teaspoon of vitamin E oil (it is a good moisturizer and gives relief from skin irritation)
Take the oatmeal in a container. Add the hot water to it. Leave it for 10 minutes. Now add the honey, nutmeg powder and the vitamin E oil. Mix well. Your mask is ready.
