Major Reasons To Shift Towards Vegan Skincare Beauty Products

Vegans are trending! Over the past two years, many people have identified as vegan or vegetarian. The demand for all things vegan has made many food and beauty industries alter their businesses and services.

Beauty and food coincide because they share the same ingredients, especially in natural beauty brands. Good to ingest and great to apply topically!

What Does “Going Vegan” Mean?

“Going Vegan” means transitioning to a plant-based diet and avoiding all foods that are or come from an animal. That means no steak, no chicken, no pork, no fish, no form of meat burgers, nor processed meat of any kind. It also means no cheese, milk, or eggs!

What is Vegan Beauty?

There’s a lot of confusing jargon around vegan beauty — “cruelty-free” is one example, with many people assuming that they’re one and the same.

Vegan beauty is beauty products that are absent of animal ingredients. Some people believe that vegan beauty and cruelty-free have the same meaning, but in actuality cruelty-free refers to a product that doesn’t test on animals. So, yes! It’s possible for a vegan beauty item to have been tested on an animal, and a cruelty-free beauty product to contain animal ingredients.

If you’re ever curious to know what companies that are either vegan and cruelty-free, PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies Program has a list of every registered company. Also, the oldest vegan society in the world, the Vegan Society charity, has registered thousands of brands that are both vegan and cruelty-free.

Animal Ingredients

Common animal-derived ingredients found in beauty products:

  • Beeswax
  • Gelatin (cow or pig bones, tendons or ligaments)
  • Squalene (shark liver oil)
  • Carmine (crushed-up beetles)
  •  Allantoin (cow urine)
  • Ambergris (whale vomit)

While they’re harmless, they’re not better for you, either, though the thought of smearing on the animal parts found in moisturizers, cosmetics and shampoos may be a deterrent. Products that have animal ingredients have been proven to be in the lead opposed to wholesome vegan products, but even with that being said, plant-based products are on the rise.

Using products that are 100% natural, you’ll often see separation and bacteria growth, which can lead to lack of effectiveness and contamination. However, vegan beauty products can contain a natural preservative that has a pure nature-derived ingredient to prevent them from spoiling.

Still Not Convinced?

Here are some reasons how vegan products can help you.

1. More Nutrients

Plants are the richest sources of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants! Since vegan beauty products are made out of plants, you can give your skin the proper care it needs to stay flawless and youthful.

2. You Can Say Goodbye to Sensitive Skin Issues

If you have sensitive skin, vegan products are best for you. Whether you struggle with acne, eczema, rosacea, or dry/oily skin, vegan is the best way to go. If you want to achieve a smooth & glowing complexion give your skin a break from harsh products and use vegan products with natural ingredients.

3. Vegan Products Are Safer for Your Entire Body

The scary fact about the skin is that anything we put on it gets absorbed and goes straight into the bloodstream to circulate freely throughout the body. Since our skin is the largest organ in the body, we have to be careful what we apply to it.

4. Safe For The Environment

Many manufacturers destroy the environment to produce their products. Since vegan companies want to save the environment, they make more effort to make products that only contain sustainable ingredients.

5. The Prices Are Comparable to Non-Vegan Products

Even though all of these reasons to buy vegan products are compelling, some shoppers can't get on board if the prices are too high. However, when you price match vegan and non-vegan proucts the cost are roughly the same.

The biggest benefit to come out of the vegan beauty movement is that it’s pushing consumers to be more aware of ingredient knowledge  and what their benefits are. Whether it is what you eat or products you use to remain beautiful, going vegan may be more promising for you.
